Test in Listening “School Subjects”
1. We write, read, listen and speak at this lesson. We do exercises orally and in writing. We ask and answer questions, make up dialogues. Sometimes we describe pictures. At these lessons we speak about weather, our school our families. We also speak about our working day, our flats and about our friends. We don’t speak Ukrainian, we speak a foreign language.
2. At this lesson we write much. We write on the blackboard and in our exercise-books. We count, we do sums and problems. This subject is very difficult.
3. We do physical exercises at this lesson. We run, jump, play ball. We have the lesson in the gymnasium when it is cold and at the sports ground when the weather is warm.
4. We study nature at these lessons. We read about the life of different animals and birds. We learn how flowers grow. Sometimes we have lessons in the open air.
5. At this lesson we listen to music. We also sing songs and study notes. We like this lesson very much, it is always very interesting.

T: Do you have new subjects in the time table this year?
P1: Yes, we do. We have some.

P2: They are: Russian, History and Nature Study.
T: What subjects do you have from Monday till Friday? Tell the story about your school week.

P3: I’m in the fifth form now. At my school we have six lessons a day, three in the morning and three in the afternoon. This year we study thirteen subjects! Monday morning is terrible. We have Maths for two lessons and then the Nature Study lesson. Monday afternoon is nice: we have two lessons of English and then Music. Tuesday is my favourite day. We have History and English in the morning and then Computer Studies and Art. On Wednesday we have the PT lesson in the afternoon. It’s my favourite subject. I like Wednesday afternoon! Thursday is difficult. I don’t like German but it’s useful. Friday is OK because it is the last day of the school week. Saturday and Sunday are great fun!

P3: My name is Iryna Bulava. I’m 11 and I go to our Gymnasium in Varva. It is a large school with about 700 pupils. In Ukraine we start school at the age of 6. We go to school from Monday to Friday. Our lessons start at half past eight in the morning. We study English, Maths, English, Art and other subjects. There is a thirty minute break at 5 minutes past 11, after the third lesson, and we have lunch in the school canteen. Some of my friends bring packed lunch from home, but I don’t. Afternoon lessons start at 25 minutes to 12 and finish at 10 past 2. After school we can join the Drama Club or the Sport Club.
I like school but I don’t like the school uniform we have to wear.

1. Read the text.
Willy Jackson lives on a farm near the village of Greenwood. There is no school in the village and Willy goes to `school in Sandford by bus. Many children come to school by bicycles. At 9 o’clock the bell rings and the lessons begin. Every day Willy has got six lessons. At 11 o’clock there is a break for 20 minutes. Children drink milk and eat cakes in the school canteen. After break the children have got two more lessons and then come the break for dinner in the school canteen. After classes Willy does not stay at school for clubs. He runs to the bus stop and hurries home, because he must help his parents on the farm. Willy is a good pupil and a good son; he studies well and always helps his parents.

T: At our today’s lesson we have revised and learned the words and word-combinations on the topic “School Life”, discussed various preferences, got some new information about schools in Ukraine. I suppose you’ve realized that school plays a great role in our life and makes it more colorful and efficient.
